Find BOP Federal Releases

To find someone released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, use the federal locator and court record rather than a Borden County jail search. No BOP institution is located in Borden County, and an ordinary local arrest does not create a federal prison record. The locator can preserve a federal release date and “Released” status after custody ends. Even then, the result proves only an exit from BOP custody. Another authority, supervised release, or a different form of detention may still apply. Federal pretrial custody and prison custody also require different records.

BOP Federal Release Destinations

The Borden County Sheriff's Office is the first stop for a Borden arrest, but it may not be the office that completed the physical release. The county budget contains prisoner housing expense, and Texas Commission on Jail Standards reports document outside housing. Ask the sheriff where the named person was booked for the relevant date. Garza County has appeared as a receiving county in historical reporting, but that evidence does not establish a permanent arrangement for every booking.

A final event may show bond, time served, a court-ordered release, transfer to TDCJ, movement on a writ, or delivery to another agency holding a detainer. Only the first group normally describes departure to the community. A transfer ends one custodian's hold and starts another. The physical jail's final entry should identify the timestamp, code, and destination. The Borden criminal file then explains the judicial authority.

Confirm BOP Federal Releases

Begin with the BOP locator, not a county notification portal. Use a federal number when possible, compare the biographical fields, and preserve the release date and location label. Then match the result to the federal judgment or release order.

  1. Search the BOP register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number.
  2. Use a name search only after checking age, race, and sex.
  3. Read “Released” as exit from BOP custody, not proof that all supervision ended.
  4. Use the federal docket, USMS contact, or FOIA record to resolve gaps.

If local Borden custody preceded federal action, the county release entry should name the receiving authority. It cannot replace the federal endpoint.

BOP Release Records Contact

BOP provides the nationwide locator and a FOIA path for older or missing federal custody information. The research identifies no BOP institution in Borden County and supplies no local BOP facility address to invent.

Federal Bureau of Prisons

Official FOIA Information

A request should identify the former prisoner with full name, date and place of birth, and register number if known. Ask for the final custody status, release date, institution, and destination fields that are publicly available.

BOP Federal Custody Scope

BOP administers sentenced federal prison custody. USMS commonly manages federal defendants before conviction or on writs, often through contracted facilities. A transfer from USMS to BOP begins a new custody stage rather than a community release.

Federal supervised release comes from the sentencing court and is not Texas parole. BOP's “Released” location should be reconciled with the federal docket and any other custodian. County and TDCJ tools do not answer the same federal question.

Historic Jail Versus Releases

The 1896 native-stone jail in Gail survives as a local landmark, but it is not a present detention endpoint. Search engines and directory listings can blur that difference by attaching current-sounding roster language to the old structure. No contemporary Borden County release trail originates from the historic jail.

Modern custody evidence points outward. The budget pays for prisoner housing, and commission reports have listed Borden prisoners elsewhere. Anyone trying to verify a current release should call the Sheriff's Office, identify the actual booking jail, and ignore a directory that treats the stone jail as active. The separate Historic Borden County Jail record page addresses that data-quality trap.

Borden Release Record Fields

A complete request should seek the fields that distinguish release from transfer. Identity may rest on the full name, aliases, date of birth, booking number, and arresting agency. Event data can include booking and release times, charges, court, bond amount and type, holds, release reason, code definition, and destination.

Bond release
Departure from pretrial custody while the criminal case and bond terms continue.
Time served
Completion of the custodial term credited by the court and jail.
Transfer
Movement to another custodian, not freedom from custody.
Discharge
End of a sentence or supervision duty, which may occur well after jail release.

Where timestamps differ, preserve each agency's wording instead of choosing one. A court can authorize release before a jail completes processing, and a detainer can cause a later transfer.

Request Borden Release Proof

Texas Government Code Chapter 552 supplies the public-information framework for agency records. A request should ask for existing records, not require staff to answer broad questions. Specify electronic copies, ask for a cost estimate above a chosen amount, and request segregation of public parts if protected data must be withheld.

For the physical jail, request: “For [name and identifier], provide the booking sheet and final release or transfer entry showing date, time, reason, and destination for custody beginning [date]. If a code is used, provide its definition.” Add the property receipt or booking photograph only when relevant. A written record is more durable than a portal screen.

Important: A person who left one jail may remain in TDCJ, federal, immigration, or another county's custody. Follow the named destination.

Correct Borden Release Errors

Send a correction request to the creator of the disputed field. The housing jail controls its release code and time. The clerk controls filed judicial entries. TDCJ controls its state status. Include the exact record identifier, the field at issue, and a supporting order or identity document.

Online absence has little force in Borden County because there is no official local released-person archive. Underlying records follow series-specific retention schedules, and some components may survive when others do not. Ask whether the item is classed as a jail register, booking record, offense report, photograph, or property record. Preserve the agency's reply and any revised record.

Search BOP Federal Releases

The BOP Inmate Locator is the correct public starting point for a person who served a federal prison sentence. Its coverage begins in 1982. It does not cover an ordinary Borden County arrest, a county contract-jail stay, or every person held pretrial by the U.S. Marshals Service.

An agency number gives the strongest search. The locator accepts a BOP register number, DCDC number, FBI number, or INS number. A biographical search uses name, age, race, and sex. Compare all displayed identifiers before relying on the match, especially when a name is common.

BOP result fieldWhat it can show
Name and register numberFederal identity and record reference
Age, race, and sexBiographical comparison fields
Release dateThe date reported by BOP
LocationAn institution or a status such as Released

Save the result with the search time. Historical data and sentence calculations have limits, and a release date may change after recalculation or application of federal credits.

Meaning of BOP Released

A BOP result marked “Released” confirms an exit from BOP custody. It does not establish that the person has no remaining legal obligation. Court-ordered supervised release can follow prison, and another correctional or law-enforcement authority can assume custody. BOP also warns that “Not in BOP custody” may reflect custody elsewhere rather than freedom.

BOP release
Departure from the federal prison system.
Supervised release
A court-imposed period monitored after imprisonment, distinct from state parole.
Transfer
Movement from one custodian to another without community release.
Discharge
End of the relevant sentence or supervision term, not merely a change of location.

A precise statement names the custodian: released from BOP, transferred from USMS, or discharged from federal supervision. These phrases are not interchangeable with release from a Borden contract jail.

Confirm the Federal Release

A reliable federal timeline combines the BOP result with the district-court record. The court supplies the sentence and any order changing detention or supervision. BOP supplies the prison endpoint. If a contracted facility or USMS held the person, that custodian may hold the physical movement record.

  1. Search by federal identifier and preserve the exact BOP status, date, and register number.
  2. Locate the federal criminal docket through PACER or contact the federal clerk for the judgment and release-related orders.
  3. If the person was a pretrial or writ prisoner, identify the responsible USMS district and contract jail.
  4. Ask whether the final movement was release to the community, delivery to BOP, or transfer to another authority.
  5. For an older or missing BOP record, send a focused FOIA request with identity details and the register number if known.

The USMS custody overview explains its role, but USMS does not provide a public historical released-person locator equivalent to BOP.

BOP Records and FOIA

The BOP FOIA channel is the fallback when the locator lacks the needed historical detail. Identify the former prisoner by full name, date and place of birth, and register number when known. Ask for an existing release or custody record and define the date range. Privacy rules or consent requirements can limit third-party details.

A narrow request is easier to process than a demand for an entire file. Seek the final BOP custody status, recorded release date, releasing institution, and transfer destination if publicly available. If the locator and court record appear to conflict, preserve both dates. The court may have authorized release before the prison completed processing, or another hold may have changed the movement.

Important: No BOP prison is located in Borden County. A Borden connection must come from a separate federal prosecution or custodial transfer.

USMS and BOP Differences

USMS generally holds federal defendants from a court's detention order through acquittal, release, or delivery to BOP after conviction. Those people may be placed in contracted facilities. The absence of a BOP locator result during that stage does not establish release because the person may not yet be in BOP custody.

Delivery from USMS to BOP is a transfer. A federal court release order authorizes a legal outcome, but the holding facility's log records when physical custody changed. After a BOP sentence, supervised release is administered under the federal court framework rather than TDCJ parole. County notification portals and the TDCJ search do not substitute for these federal channels.

Federal and Borden Records

If Borden officers first arrested the person on local authority, the sheriff can explain the local commitment and destination. A later federal writ or prosecution creates a separate federal trail. Ask each record holder only for the event within its control. Borden cannot certify the end of a BOP sentence, and BOP cannot certify the outcome of a Borden County charge.

The Borden County release record path is useful when local custody preceded federal action. Match the local transfer field to the federal admission or docket. Do not turn a gap between systems into a claim of community release.
